.INFO

The .INFO top level domain is a commonly used generic Top-Level Domain which you are able to choose from when you register your website online. INFO is an unsponsored TLD that can be used freely from everybody for any purpose, similar to the com, net or org domains. Info top-level domain is the only one that was explicitly created and chartered for unrestricted use. INFO is an abbreviation from “information” because it was initially intended for pages that provide some informational content. The first .INFO domains were registered back in 2000 when the .INFO domain name was introduced. INFO is currently one of the most commonly utilized Top Level Domains.

.INFO Registration Requirements

The first TLDs had some restrictions for registration that depend on the purposes of the websites that would use them. Although the .INFO Top-Level Domain was originally created for informational pages, nowadays it’s much more widely used. Today every organization (commercial or non-profit) or individual from any part of the world can freely register a .INFO domain; there are no restrictions and requirements for registration and the domain can be used for a wide range of purposes. The registry for the .INFO top-level domain is hosted by Afilias and you can make .INFO registration with any accredited registrar. Since 2000 more than 7 million domains with the .INFO gTLD has been registered.
